Getting Behind Mahdlo

On Tuesday 24th January 2012, Mahdlo received a visit from two special supporters. Oldham born and bred, Julie Holroyd and Sue Flanagan were given a tour around the building to see first hand how the new facility is developing in advance of its doors opening in March this year.

Both ladies have a vested interest in ensuring the success of Mahdlo for the young people of the borough and have offered their support to make sure this is achieved.

Sue, already a Patron of the Youth Zone and Terry Flanagan’s (Vice Chair of Mahdlo) wife is keen to become a mentor once the building is open, she said: “young people need somewhere to go, somewhere that they are listened to and a safe place to have fun with their friends. I can’t wait to get involved and be that someone who will listen to a young person who needs some support.”

“I am so impressed with the building itself and can’t believe what has been made possible on a site of that size.”

Julie Holroyd, Oldhamer and wife of Bill Holroyd (founder and Chair of OnSide North West) is also exicited to get involved in the project, both in a volunteering capacity and also to support with fundraising for the Youth Zone.

Julie commented: “I wish I was young now in Oldham and could come here and use this amazing facility. It truly is fantastic that this is happening, I can’t wait to see Mahdlo full of young people. The Youth Zone has already had some brilliant support from local businesses, it is great to see everyone recognising that we must invest in our future generation.”

Claire Crossfield, development manager at Mahdlo added: “It is really amazing to see how many people have got behind Mahdlo, Sue and Julie have really been inspired by the Youth Zone and I know their backing and support will make a huge difference.”
