Getting their game faces on!

Last night Mahdlo seniors took on The Casey Group in a thrilling and fast paced football match.  The 7 strong team arrived to a warm Mahdlo welcome before kicking off at 7pm prompt.

The Casey Group, owned by Mahdlo Founder Patrons Peter and Patricia Casey, dominated the first half leading by 5 goals to 2 when the whistle blew. But after a team talk, from Captain and Mahdlo member Kieran, the Mahdlo team pulled up their socks and were eventually crowned winners with a 12-9 victory!! The evening saw some fantastic goals and both teams demonstrated great team work.

After a breather The Casey Group took on our Senior Climbers and narrowly pipped our team to victory.  This match is the first in a series that we have planned are next time will be taking on another one of our Founder Patrons, JW Lees.

Ste Hardy, Senior Zone Coordinator at Mahdlo, told us “it’s great that our Patrons and local businesses are coming along to meet our young people and take on the challenge. Our members have been training hard and want more businesses to sign up, put their football boots on and join us for an evening of fun at Mahdlo.”

The Chance to Street Dance

Our members were treated to a Street Dance master class when 3 of the UK’s top street dance popped in, on their way to the ‘Keep Dancing Championship’ in Beijing, to teach them some of their best moves.IMG_5386

Dickson Mbi, a popping and contemporary dancer, boasts an appearance in Lucozade Revive adverts. Brooke Milliner, a choreographer with an aptitude for acrobatics, took part in the Beijing Olympics closing ceremony in 2008 and appeared in the “Street Dance” 3D movie, while Clara Bajado became a Nike athlete after winning their Dance Clash competition in 2007.

Organised by local business and Mahdlo Patron, Team Spirit Event Management the workshops saw over 30 young people learn the moves before all coming together to perform one big routine.  Get Creative coordinator Rachelann Brooks told us “this has been a fantastic opportunity for our young people to learn from some of the best dancers in the country, only at Mahdlo could this happen.  We want to say a huge thanks to Ian and the guys at Team Spirit as well as Simply Health who together have made this happen.”

The best yet!!!

There is no such thing as a boring half term here at Mahdlo and our recent Holiday Zone was the best yet!!!! Lucy and the team made sure there was never a dull moment and there was something for everyone.

Over 60 young people spent the day outdoors at The Giants seat campsite in Radcliffe. The young people set up base camp, building dens and creating their own team flags! Having worked as a team to make a fire the young people tucked into Hot Dogs for dinner!

During the afternoon the young people participated in lots of fun activities including Treasure Chest and a giant Tug of War. As the day got colder, the young people got together and enjoyed a well deserved mug of hot chocolate before heading back to Mahdlo!

After all the hard work Lucy and the team set the Holiday Zone members a new task……..Could they learn juggling, uni cycle, diablo, devil sticks when Skylight circus came for the day????

OF COURSE THEY COULD….
