Ability Worker

Post ref: ABW-1118, 7hrs/week, £7.97- £10.09 per hour dependent on experience and qualification

Mahdlo is a young people’s charity based in Oldham. Our mission is to deliver excellent experiences for young people from Oldham through a range of sporting, creative arts and career enabling activities to encourage young people to be the best they can be. We are proud that many young people provide testimonies about the life changing experiences they have had with Mahdlo.

We have an opportunity for an Ability Worker to engage and build rapport with young people with additional needs or a disability, supporting them to achieve their full potential to take part in Mahdlo Youth Zone’s exciting and vibrant offer. Committed to promoting cohesion and inclusion, you will work in a ‘person centred’ way and use your own initiative to meet a range of needs.

The ideal candidate will have experience of working with young people with disabilities and/or additional needs, together with the ability to plan and deliver activity sessions for those with a wide range of abilities. With a good knowledge of health and safety, you will maintain safeguarding best practice and will be confident in managing a group of young people, especially those with challenging behaviour.

Bid Writer

£28,000 per annum pro rata, 24hrs/week, 3 years fixed term contract.

Mahdlo Youth Zone is a young people’s charity based in Oldham with a vision to be a beacon of excellence for youth-led provision. Our mission is to deliver high quality, innovative activities and experiences for young people aged 8-19 (25 with a disability) to provide opportunities to raise aspirations and support young people to be the best they can be.

We have an exciting opportunity to support the fundraising and development of Mahdlo Youth Zone. We are seeking to recruit an experienced, highly motivated and pro-active person to the role of Bid Writer. The post holder will have significant experience in trust fundraising, writing compelling funding bids and strong relationship building skills. You will work closely with the income generation team to deliver a coherent fundraising strategy, ethos and message that meets Mahdlo’s business needs and exploits all viable opportunities.

Experience in three or more of the following areas are essential:

  • At least 3 years’ experience of business development through trusts and grants fundraising.
  • 5 years’ experience in writing high-quality winning bids in the public or third sector.
  • Experience of working competently under pressure and to tight deadlines, often without direction/continuous supervision.
  • Excellent rapport building, networking and relationship management experience.

Volunteer Mentor

Make a difference in a young person’s life – become a Mahdlo Mentor! Mahdlo’s Mentoring scheme is designed to offer one-to-one support to young people aged 8-21.

Mentors are volunteers who come from all walks of life and can give up to two hours a week to offer support, guidance and assistance to a young person.
