Mahdlo members visited Old Mill House care home in Oldham this week, working with residents as part of their NCS social action project.

Participants ran a number of activities for residents to get involved with, including board games, arts & crafts, and more.

The event was the latest success for Mahdlo’s current NCS cohort after they recently took part in a residential week at YMCA Lakeside. The residential gave participants the opportunity to grow their confidence and independence, whilst also building on their social skills.

Michelle Johnson, NCS Coordinator at Mahdlo, said: “It was so wonderful to see our participants engaging so well with the residents. There were smiles all round throughout the day and the feedback we got from the tenants our young people spent time with was overwhelmingly positive.

“I’m incredibly proud of the work our NCS participants have done on the course, they’ve made exceptional progress and I can’t wait to see where they go once they have finished up with the programme.”

Dianne Hayes, Extra Care Court Manager at Old Mill House, added: “I just wanted to thank you personally for all the hard work your young people put in to their visit to Old Mill House on Saturday.  I have had some really positive feedback from my residents and care staff.

“They behaved impeccably and interacted really well with my residents in particular some of my more vulnerable tenants.  Please pass on my appreciation to the young people for all their hard work and commitment in giving up their weekend, we really do appreciate it!”

The event was the first time Mahdlo has visited Old Mill House, but is unlikely to be the last, with Mahdlo’s Mentoring team choir due to perform some Christmas Carols over the coming weeks.

Designed especially for 16 and 17 year olds, the NCS experience gives young people the opportunity to make new friends, learn new skills, and take on fresh challenges. From a residential trip away from home, to a passion project that will make a difference in your community, NCS gives a taste of independence and skills development to help young people smash their future goals.

Over 500,000 people have already done NCS – want to join them? Get in touch with our NCS Coordinator right now to find out more!
