500 Miles for Mahdlo – Your local stories

On 4 July 2020 walkers across Oldham set out on their own sponsored walks, runs and treks to help raise vital funds for Mahdlo, including this best boy Raymond Crabb, and our own Terry Flanagan!

Between the amazing efforts of humans and dogs alike, our fundraisers came together to raise more than £2500 for the charity. We owe a massive thank you to each and every person who walked, jogged, and ran to support us!

PC Damieon Hartley-Pickles
The Barrowthonman rose to support Mahdlo’s cause yet again as he took on a half marathon in his own back garden, all while pushing his trusty wheelbarrow. PC Hartley-Pickles raised more than £1,000 and we cannot thank him enough for his continued support throughout lockdown.
Ruth Major
Every day, for 26 days, Ruth Major a prolific Oldham fundraiser, walked 2.6 km in two 26 minute chunks along her corridor at home! Ruth was taking part in the national 2.6 Challenge and ended up raising a total of £700 in support of Mahdlo! We are so thankful to Ruth and to everyone who backed her fundraising efforts.
Frankie Byrne & Shaun Knowles
Local legends Frankie Byrne and Shaun Knowles walked the entirety of the 40 mile Oldham Way Challenge in less than 24 hours – raising more than £1600 for Mahdlo in the process! A phenomenal effort from the lads who set off at 1am to make sure they could finish the route in time, and we are so proud of them.
Dave Lowe
Dave rose to the Mahdlo #GiveFromHome campaign by devising his own Strongman Challenge. Carrying an 80kg sandbag (the same as an adult kanagroo!) across 150 widths of his back garden Dave managed to raise an amazing £709 to help Mahdlo continue to support Oldham’s young people during the lockdown.
