Mahdlo Joins With Mencap For Round The World Challenge

Mahdlo has joined with Mencap for the Round The World Challenge.

The Round the World Challenge (RTWC) is an engaging physical activity programme for people with a learning disability that makes sport and physical activity fun, exciting and rewarding.

The Youth Zone will be a ‘delivery hub’, encouraging Ability Zone members at Mahdlo to get involved with physical activity and become more involved with sports.

Activities including the gym, climbing, basketball and more will be run from Mahdlo allowing more young people with additional needs or disabilities to engage with physical activity, and gain the confidence to take part more regularly.

The innovative programme is aimed at improving activity levels among more than 4,000 people with a learning disability over a four-year period across England. The programme will be delivered in 27 participation hubs with each hub working locally in collaboration with the learning disability sector, sports providers and community and voluntary organisations to deliver an accessible range of opportunities.··

As well as delivering sport and physical activity in a fun and engaging way, the program me is aimed at preparing people for their future, through increasing confidence, social interactions and offering volunteering, leadership and employment opportunities.

Amy Taylor, Ability Zone Coordinator at https://www.mahdloyz.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/Design-our-minibus.png, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be working with Mencap on the Round The World Challenge.

“Young people who have additional needs or disabilities can face greater challenges in getting active, whether that’s struggling to find a sports provider to support them or simply just lacking in confidence.

“The Round the World Challenge has been designed to be inclusive and, as all our activities will take place at Mahdlo, we can offer any support our Ability Zone members need to enjoy the challenge!”

Do you know anyone aged 13 – 25 interested in getting active but not sure where to start? Or maybe they are struggling for motivation? Look no further – we have teamed up with Mencap to deliver the ‘Round the World Challenge’ programme that encourages people to get active in a way that is flexible, fun and empowering. Come along to the launch event on Friday 31st January 7pm – 7.45pm in the gym, to get your free T-shirt and water bottle.
