Ability Worker

We have an opportunity for an Ability Worker to engage and build rapport with young people with additional needs or a disability, supporting them to achieve their full potential to take part in Mahdlo Youth Zone’s exciting and vibrant offer. Committed to promoting cohesion and inclusion, you will work in a ‘person centred’ way and use your own initiative to meet a range of needs.

The ideal candidate will have experience of working with young people with disabilities and/or additional needs, together with the ability to plan and deliver activity sessions for those with a wide range of abilities. With a good knowledge of health and safety, you will maintain safeguarding best practice and will be confident in managing a group of young people, especially those with challenging behaviour.

Closing date: 12 noon, Friday 28th January 2022
Job Type: Permanent
Salary: £8.91 per hour
Hours: 4 to 8 hour contracts available per week

Please send your completed application by email to hr@mahdloyz.org.

We have loads of varied roles suitable for volunteers. If you are looking to develop your skills and confidence for work and have a few spare hours each week, you could join our team as a Mahdlo Volunteer. It’s a great way of developing your self-confidence, motivation and employability skills whilst making a real difference to the lives of our young members.

You can volunteer at Mahdlo if you are aged 16 or over and have left school.

Volunteer Mentor

Our mentoring scheme is designed to offer one to one support to young people aged 8 to 19 (or 25 if they have additional needs).

Mentors are volunteers and come from all walks of life, who can give up to two hours a week to offer support, guidance and assistance in dealing with any difficulties a young person may be experiencing.

To be a mentor, you do not need a youth work background, you just need to be a positive role model and are available to give one to two hours a week (which is flexible depending on the young person’s availability and needs as well as your own). The perfect role for someone looking to pass on their experiences in life, or someone who wants to support young people on a one-to-one basis.
